Well folks, summer is winding down, our athletes are headed out to the field/court, and that means that their sport coach is back in charge. Now, we all knew that was going to happen, and in some cases nothing changes. But, it pains me to think that this means that a lot of hard work that our athletes have put in in the weight room all summer will come to a screeching halt. There are too many coaches who do not understand that just because the competitive season is beginning we cannot still be productive in the weight room. Its worth pointing out that the important games are played at the end of the season, and if we cannot at least maintain our performance level, the drop off could be steep. Here is a great article from USC team member Jim Kielbaso on how we can better organize the in-season training for football, but could be applied to most sports. We must make a plan now, and get our sport coaches on board by explaining why there must be time made for the weight room in-season.
I am excited to present 8 great articles this week. Enjoy!
